At the end of summer we enjoyed making tea using tables in the living room to avoid lingering summer heat.

At the beginning of the Meiji era (1872) the standing bow style "Ryu-rei" was devised by Gengensai (Urasenke Ⅺ) for the new era to invite foreign guests in Kyoto.

There are a set of desks called "Ten-cha-ban" to put tea utensils and chairs to sit on. In recent years the stands of various styles for "Ryu-rei" are designed so that many people including overseas customers can enjoy tea easily at a tea gathering.

This table (see picture) is for the living room and the round tables are placed on both sides to match the "Ryu-rei" style. Here is the tea box procedure called "Wakei-date" in which two tea bowls are used.

The sweets tray is made of Kamakura wood carving with mother-of-pearl shining on black lacquer, also a work of my friend.

A cool breeze different from the Japanese-style room passed through.
