Listening to the rain

Updated: Aug 3

In June, during the rainy season, we enjoy the tea quietly while listening to the sound of rain.

The hanging scroll is "水上清々翠" (Clear Green on the Water). It depicts a scene of plants swaying by the water. The hydrangeas in the bamboo basket also add a chic color to the tearoom.

The tea utensils are a combination for the water season, with a long tray (“nagaita”) and a glass “mizusashi".

The gold leaf of “mizusashi” sparkles in the blue water and stands out against the black long tray. When I look at this “mizusashi”, I feel that the color of the water soothes my soul. The long tray expands the space and has a different atmosphere from the tea utensil stands usually we use.

The tea bowls are painted with the "dew grass" and the "umbrella" each. The tea container (“natsume”) is a copy of "bamboo dew" that is the favorite by Rikyu.

The photo (above) shows two students from the Sunday class who are currently studying the thick tea (“koicha “) procedure.

For thick tea, today we use a tea caddy with a chintz cloth pouch and a celadon tea bowl. The shape of the tea caddy is “gourd-shaped with ears'', which is suitable for summer. (Photo below)

Their tea procedure is also gradually improving.

The hanging flower hydrangeas are watching over them kindly♪
