The tea bowl “Umbrella”

Hydrangea that you meet during the rainy season. This year too, they decorate the tea room with quiet colors. The tea is served with seasonal beautiful water combination.

Hanging scroll: "水上清々翠" This is a landscape where plants and trees sway on the surface of the water.

Shelf: "Ryusei Dana", which is a favorite of Urasenke 14th Tantan-Sai.

Natsume (tea container): Rikyu's traditional pattern " bamboo grass" made by Reihou Sasaki in Fukui, where the dew shines by mother-of-pearl work.

Mizusashi (flesh water container): Glass in light blue with gold foil. The water is transparent and cool.

Futaoki (lid rest): Kaga Tang gold inlay "peach""

Tea bowl: "Umbrella Painting" made by Zuiun Maeda.

Through the round window of the shelf using the handle of hishaku (ladle), you can see the “furo” (brazier) and it makes the room elegant.

Today's tea bowl is a special memory item. It was given to me to commemorate the 80th birthday (傘寿:umbrella birthday celebration) of the teacher under who I learned the tea in my 20s. The umbrella has an extending part at the top representing eight and a handle representing ten in Japanese kanji character.

The teacher was born in June and retired after 50 years of tea experience. It had been 10 years after I started learning tea from the beginning also, I was received the tea name. When I look at this tea bowl, I always think of her and feel she is asking, "Are you doing the tea lesson properly?"

I will continue to cherish her teachings and the heart of tea.

I'm sure she feels happy to meet all of you at the lessons.
