On New Year's Day, it continues to be sunny and quiet in Tokyo.

The teacup on the right picture is associated with the first poetry-reading party of the New Year at the Imperial Palace. This year’s theme of poetry (“Waka” in Japanese) is fruits. I think we can imagine a harvest or making a success in life.
This teacup is Mino ware (made in Gifu pref. Japan ) named "the three type of fruits". The three fruits are peach, mandarin orange, and pomegranate. Orange means "money luck", pomegranate means "healthy luck", and peach means "apotropaic". It is said to lead to good luck.
I hope to enjoy substantial tea with everyone this year as well.
The Sea of Japan side has unprecedented snowfall, and today it is getting cold, so it seems that the cold will be severe from now on.
I pray that the COVID-19 infection will come to an end and that it will be a safe and healthy year.
